Recent claims shows that deleted messages are present in the notification log of the device which implies that the recipient can easily access the deleted messages regardless whether it has been deleted from sender's end. After following up on this report, We at Techchore found out that the messages are actually stored in the notification register of the Android system, meaning it’s just a matter of accessing that record to recover deleted messages.
Alternatively, Deleted messages sent to users on WhatsApp can be recovered with a third-party application named Notification History which is readily available for download on Google Play store. You can search for the application once you launch your Google Play Store or directly through this link Google Play. After downloading the app, you will have to search the message in the Android notification log. For Android users who are using third-party launchers like Nova Launcher, this process is even easier. The device’s notification log can be accessed without the help of an additional application. To access the notification log if you use Nova Launcher on your device, just follow these short steps
- Long press the home screen, then tap on Widgets
- From your widgets screen, click on Activities
- Then go to Settings
- Then Locate and click on the Notification log.
There are few limitations to these tricks, although we have concluded that the messages that have generated a notification on the device can be retrieved, you must have it in mind that the notification log only saves the messages on the device until it's restarted. Once you restart your device, the log will be cleared.
Secondly, the methods listed above has a restriction, the number of characters from the deleted messages that will be visible is limited to only the first 100 characters. Other limitations to this method includes:
- The feature is available only for users running Android 7.0 and above.
- Not all kind of media file can be recovered, as users can only retrieve text.
This is just the latest feature added to WhatsApp to join a long list of other features introduced this year, and users regard this as the biggest change added to the application so far!
I hope you were able to retrieve the first 100 characters of that deleted message that appears on your chat list, If not, tell us where things went wrong in the comment section below.
