UC Browser has been Removed From Google Play Store: In early part of this year, precisely January, Alibaba
announced a Rs.2 billion (approximately 1,114,956,720.00 Nigerian Naira) investment to build
UCWeb in two new countries (India and Indonesia) over the next two years. But
this project allegedly hit a snag when news broke out that the application was
totally removed from google play store.
If you are an active vuser of google play store for android
applications’ download or you just acquired an android device and tried to
download the UCWeb browser but was unable to locate it, Well the application
was removed from the Google play store since last week, But on Wednesday, the Alibaba-owned
application manager said that a new version of the UCBrowser is now available
for download on Google play store.
"During the brief absence of UC Browser on Play Store, we continued to meticulously check our technical settings while also witnessing an uninterrupted passion of our users for the product, who looked upon the alternative version, UC Browser Mini, and made it to the top of [the] Free Apps category on the Play Store," said Young Li, Head-International Business Department at Alibaba Mobile Business Group.
On Google play store in October, UC Browser has crossed 500 million downloads which increased their user base share of about 45 percent, and upgraded them to become one of the most popular mobile browser in terms of Internet usage, following other browser applications like Google Chrome and so on.
Earlier report states that the UCWeb App was removed by Google from its Play Store over data security concerns, as a probe was released against UC Browser for sending user details and location data to a remote server but this was quickly dismissed by UCWeb which lead them to release a statement regarding the exact reasons why their application was removed.
A UCWeb spokesperson said in a recent interview that "The exact reason for UC Browser's unavailability on Google Play is because of a certain setting of UC Browser that was not in line with Google's policy and has nothing to do with the alleged data security breach or malicious promotion,"
When Google was contacted, in a statement they said: "Our policies are designed to provide a safe and positive experience for users. That's why we remove apps from Google Play that violate those policies."
I hope this elucidates the controversy surrounding the removal of UC Browser from Google play store. You can go on to download as it is now available.
